Wayne James, Ltd., was established in the fall semester of 1985 while Wayne James was a second-year law student at prestigious Georgetown University in Washington, DC. James launched his first collection in New York City in the spring of 1987 while in his final semester of law school. James sold his first collection to New York’s Bergdorf Goodman in April of 1987; he graduated in May of that year; and his first collection was shipped to retailers in July of 1987.
